Local Government Supervisory Essentials

A CivicExcellence Masterclass Series Instructed by Tracey Lorenson

Course Summary

With new challenges and responsibilities to overcome, new supervisors need training that helps them adjust to their new roles.

In the local government, many employees are promoted within the organization. These new supervisors may have the skills of the job, but learning how to supervise your new employees on a trial and error basis can lead to discouragement.

This course can help you overcome many of the problems a new supervisor may encounter, and set the groundwork for a successful change in your working life.

"I appreciate the handouts and the assessments as tools that I can refer to. The biggest takeway is the Problem Solving Model. I feel that component stood out for me as a great way to anticipate and prevent problems, and will serve as a prompt for problem solving with the group."

"I liked the wide range of materials and insight from Tracey, as well as the ability to watch her speak - made the online learning format much easier to undergo. I appreciated the structure of the course which allowed me to take notes on new thoughts and ideas while watching the videos. I also liked reading the forums, though I was a bit nervous about posting to them, and liked hearing everyone's thoughts on what makes a good supervisor."
